My 5 Favorite Preacher Covers
9.30.2010 | My Blog
Earlier this year, I wrote a blog post about my 10 favorite comic book covers from my original collection. My collection grew not long after that when I purchased every issue of the Preacher series off ebay. Preacher originally ran from 1995-2000 and it included 66 issues (plus 5 specials and a 4-issue miniseries). This series has easily become my favorite comic that I have read. One of the best parts of these books is the amazing cover art that was created by Glenn Fabry for each issue (all the covers are not even included in the trade paperbacks). My top 5 favorite covers are after the jump.
1. Preacher #43 (“Christina’s World”): Seeing Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World in person completely changed my perspective on modern art. I have never been more moved by seeing a piece of art IRL. So, it is only fitting that Fabry’s interpretation of this piece of art for the cover of this issue would be my favorite.
2. Preacher #1 (“The Time of the Preacher“): Such an iconic cover! It really sets the tone for the beginning of this very chaotic story.
3. Preacher #53 (“Too Dumb for New York City and Too Ugly for L.A.“): Clearly I love when comic artist pay homage to fine artists. It’s hard to deny this this cover was influenced by Jasper John’s work.
4. Preacher #16 (“Judgment Night“): Hey, Tulip, what’s up?
5. Preacher #50 (“The Land of Bad Things“): I feel like this cover shows how much the Preacher character changes throughout the story (see Preacher #1). #daddyissues
