Hey, Frankie, relax!

At one point, people could only get a glimpse into a celebrity’s life when some trashy magazine published some photos of celebrities shopping. THEY’RE JUST LIKE US! I know… I was surprised too. But now… we have Ashton tweeting pics of Demi’s butt. Yay? Yes, the internet and social media has given fans an insight into to the world of celebrities that at one point they would have never had access to. The same is true for comic book creators… many of which have embraced the always-changing world of internet and social media trends to engage their fans and promote their personal brand. Read more…

Comic book artists need better websites

As I venture out onto the Internet to learn more about my favorite comic book artists, I keep coming across websites that look unprofessional, outdated, or some that are just plain terrible. (Say what you will about Rob Liefeld’s artwork, but he at least has a pretty professional looking website — pictured above.)These artists clearly have more talent in their little finger than I have in my entire body and I think that they should have a web presence that appropriately showcases their talents. This could be something as simple as James Jean’s minimalist portfolio, in which he lets the work speak for itself, or something more like Marvel or DC‘s sites, where they have the art take up the majority of the page. My 5 Favorite Preacher Covers

Earlier this year, I wrote a blog post about my 10 favorite comic book covers from my original collection. My collection grew not long after that when I purchased every issue of the Preacher series off ebay. Preacher originally ran from 1995-2000 and it included 66 issues (plus 5 specials and a 4-issue miniseries). This series has easily become my favorite comic that I have read. One of the best parts of these books is the amazing cover art that was created by Glenn Fabry for each issue (all the covers are not even included in the trade paperbacks). My top 5 favorite covers are after the jump.

10 of my favorite comic book covers

Wolverine #1When I started reading comic books again three years ago (after a 12-year hiatus), I promised myself I wouldn’t get back into collecting single issues and would only buy trade paperbacks. It just didn’t seem financially reasonable to pay $4 per issue and I had so much reading to catch up on that it only made sense to read trades. The one thing I really do miss about buying single issues was getting to check out each new cover when going to the comic book shop! So, I thought it’d be fun to go back through my totally random comic collection that has sat in boxes since the early 90s and try to pick out some of my favorite covers from back in the day. Check out the list after the jump. Read more…
